Ocellated turkeys in Guatemala with slamminturkeys.com!

Ocellated Turkey Hunt in Guatemala

A true jungle turkey adventure in 55,000 hectares of towering rainforest—available April to May.

If you’ve ever dreamed of hunting the most exotic turkey on earth, Petén, Guatemala is the place. This is a rare, wild, and intensely beautiful experience: you trade open-country glassing for deep jungle listening, close-quarters calling, and the adrenaline of a bird that looks like it was painted by hand—iridescent feathers, blue head, orange-red nodules, and those unmistakable “eye” spots.

Your base of operations is near Flores, Petén, gateway to Guatemala’s legendary jungle. The hunt takes place across 55,000 hectares (135,900+ acres) of tall rainforest habitat—remote, primal, and loaded with adventure.

The Journey: From Guatemala City to the Heart of Petén

Most hunters arrive into Guatemala City (GUA), then connect to a quick domestic flight to Petén (Flores / Mundo Maya Airport – FRS).

From Flores, you’ll enjoy a scenic ~4-hour drive through the jungle—a stunning ride into the wild side of Guatemala. Think dense canopy, tropical birds, and that “we’re really doing this” feeling that only grows stronger as the pavement disappears and the jungle closes in.

Optional: Helicopter Direct to the Hunting Area

Want to skip the drive and go full VIP? You can also arrange a helicopter transfer directly to the hunting area, which is an unforgettable way to arrive—seeing the jungle stretch to the horizon as you drop into camp.

What Makes This Hunt Special

A “Once-in-a-Lifetime” Turkey

The ocellated turkey is not just another bird—it’s a trophy with true mystique. The hunt is challenging, the visuals are unreal, and success feels earned.

Massive, Wild Country

You’ll hunt across 55,000 hectares of tall jungle, offering real freedom to move with birds, adjust tactics, and hunt in a setting most hunters only see in documentaries.
